Transmedia can be described as an approach to creating a narrative to harmonize multiple stories across multiple media platforms (Rutledge, n.d) I found this topic to be quite interesting in terms of the ability to use transmedia in education. Further research into the application of transmedia in education led me to acknowledge that it is possible to use transmedia in education by delivering content on a topic that is easily available across all media platforms such as laptops, IPads, smartphones and any other device a child may have access to, this will enable every child to access the content from whichever device they have.
I found the TED talk on transmedia quite confusing and felt I learnt more about Japanese cartoons rather than what transmedia actually was but perhaps I missed the point in the talk. As wonderful as TED is I thought that perhaps a better video could have been put in so I could fully grasp what transmedia is and how it affects us or can be used in an educational setting. Further research was required to fully understand the concept of transmedia and how it is used.
Sun (2014) states that ‘Educational transmedia, at its best, broadens access to students with various learning styles it’s also iterative, inspiring a next level of engagement—which is powerful for the learning process.
Overall I felt that this topic did lack when it came to information on transmedia. I was not able to receive a clear indication of what it was and its use in education as well as in homes which made it difficult to answer any review questions without researching transmedia and allowing for further reading into the subject. The subject of transmedia was actually quite insightful and I thoroughly enjoyed researching and learning more about it.
